I used to like camping, it was fun. Now I like to enjoy the nicer things in life such as hotel suites.
I don’t do holidays but I do rarely like to get away and chill somewhere nice such as a good hotel with my computer and well you guys and gals on Oppo. But most hotel rooms are dark and dismal and sitting in the foyer or restaurant by yourself with a computer starts to look pathetic after a couple of hours. So suites are great in that you have a separate living room and bedroom but I don’t pay full price, I shop around and look for deals and offers such as this place at £250 a night, got it for £90.
I’m 35 and I’ve come to appreciate relaxing when I can. Enjoy your camping while I enjoy my breakfast in bed.
It doesn’t even have to be flashy as normally you can get a two bedroom apartment for £90 a night also. All the amenities of home and a nice relaxing atmosphere without the hassle of having to build your room first.
I miss the camaraderie of camping but camping alone is not my thing.

Fancy. My accommodation when I'm away is usually a £20 tent that leaks because poor.

Yes and no. I’m 34 with kids 2 & 4 and we go camping about twice a year. It’s fun for the experience but after my parents bought a pop up & inlaws bout a 25’ camping trailer, it’s hardly camping but I doubt I’ll sleep in a tent again, unless on a 4wd expedition or 2-3 day float trip. Which looks unlikely as is a pain to schedule babysitters over nights.
I’ve been in a Sub par hotel for 5 weeks during the week. I’m ready for my own bed.

I enjoy camping alone more than anything else. Sure its cool to have other people and such, but being able to just determine your own schedule and just enjoy the quiet of nature is purely relaxing. Being alone in a hotel room feels no different from being home, if anything its less fun because I generally don’t have a kitchen to cook things. At least while camping, I can cook all sorts of food and playing with fire is enjoyment in and of itself. I would gladly pay more for camping than staying in a hotel but getting it $15-$25 a night certainly sweetens the deal.

This hotel is quite near you actually. It’s the Slaley Hall near Hexham.
I don't go away often, in fact the last time I went away was nearly two years ago. I just like to do it right, when I do.

I’m with you on this. What’s less relaxing than sleeping with just a thin bit of canvas to keep the noise in and the sun out?

Haha I always find it funny the people that don’t get camping or see it like an archaic thing. With the right gear and preparation, camping is certainly one of the most exciting things to spend a weekend doing. Especially if you bring enough good food and make a huge bonfire.

True. A nice hotel, wifi, my laptop and bottle of a good wine in the room and a couple of nice cigars and a large whiskey for a stroll when I fancy it.

The bath in the living room or my lovely laptop case?
The bath looks out over the golf course at the rear.
They removed the garden on the terrace for a more open space.

This one is similar to a room a friend and myself stopped in when we went to see a comedian in Newcastle.
Two double bedrooms, two bathrooms and open plan living room and kitchen. It was great.
Short hop from the train station, back to the room to get changed and relax, off to Black Friars restaurant a couple of hundred metres away, see the comedian have a few drinks then home to the apartment for a bottle of wine and watch some tv. Got peckish in the night made myself something to eat and went back to bed then woke up the next morning popped out to the shop to make some breakfast then quick tidy up and away again. Fantastic.

Hotels are cool and all. Problem is though, staying in a hotel doesn’t give you this kind of view:
If it does, it’s ruined by asshole tourists swinging their fucking selfie sticks around smacking people in the head.

That’s why I love staying in airbnb places when I need somewhere with walls and a roof and electricity and all that. You get a nice home-like experience where you can make meals, relax, and not have to hide your valuables or worry about bed bugs. Definitely know how to enjoy and relax in a nice place. I cant (easily) go camping in the dead of winter!

The only time camping is worth it, is when the location is so spectacular, it exceeds the misfortune of eating crappy food, crapping said crappy food in the bushes and being a mosquito restaurant.
If I’m going to spend a whole bunch of money pretending to be homeless, I want the kinda views/adventure that I can never get without camping.

Bath in the living room! That’s just cool, I’d love to be in a place like that with my girl.

It’s nice though I’ll stick with the shower myself (space for four people should you wish).
I liked the large tv from the bed (rubbish phone photo, had the lights dimmed and couldn’t be bothered to get up).

It's knowing when to go and we don't always tell the tourists the best places to go, we keep that for ourselves. ;)
